I’m not “finishing 2023 strong!", an article about therapy, & gift guides!
Issue #7 - December 19, 2023
→ can everyone relax with the “let’s finish 2023 strong” posts
I’m not going to hustle into the New Year.
I did enough of that when I was working in STEM.
I feel like my social media feeds are inundated with posts about finishing the year out strong & wrapping up 2023 with a perfect crimson bow. & I feel a little guilty that I don’t share the same motivation… or do I?
Maybe I should dust off my 2023 resolutions and see if I can accomplish 1 or 2 of them in the next couple weeks…
Maybe I should be trying to scale my business by starting one of the 30 ideas swirling around in my mind…
But alas, I think not.
Last week was my daughter’s last couple days of her Mother’s Day Out program. So my days are now filled with holiday play dates & fitting in my client work between The Grinch showings & nap time.
I’m sure your days are probably similar with kids home from school - trying to balance your remaining deadlines with holiday parties & decorating the house.
So I’m here to give you permission - you don’t have to accomplish anything else this year for it to have been a success.
You can wrap up your 2023 at work, and spend the rest of your time RESTING. Spending time with your kids. At the park. Baking cookies with the little honeys.
You don’t have to hustle & do more & finish strong.
I encourage you to think back on 2023 and write down 1 thing you accomplished in each of these areas:
relationships
family
parenting
career
physical health
mental health
spirituality
adventure
personal learning & growth
Don’t use that to start setting goals for next year quite yet. Just be proud of what you’ve done this year!
& do something nice for yourself. You deserve it!
→ therapy is trendy, y’all.
"You're still in therapy after 4 years?!"
”Ummmmmmmmmmmmm yes & duh.”
I get this reaction a lot.
Like - what could I possibly still need therapy for?
Don't you have it all figured out by now?!
When I first started in 2020, it was out of 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 to deal with anxiety.
Now, it's all about 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲.
You don't just take your car in when it get's wrecked.
You go for tire rotations, filter & oil changes.
Same with therapy.
This is why I still go a couple times a month:
1. Investing in myself is important to me.
-> whether its a manicure, haircut, or therapy 💅
2. I became a mom. Hello, postpartum anxiety.
-> if you don't deal with it, it crushes you. ⛰️
3. To get called out on my own BS.
-> "Doesn't sound like you're practicing what you preach about self care..."
-> a real thing my therapist has said to me r̶i̶g̶h̶t̶ ̶b̶e̶f̶o̶r̶e̶ ̶I̶ ̶f̶i̶r̶e̶d̶ ̶h̶i̶m̶ ̶🙃
4. Because my clients deserve a healthy me.
-> $200 a month is a small price to pay for that 💸
5. IDK if you've noticed, but life is hard.
-> but it gets easier if you can process some of it. 🌀
6. I think everyone hates me if I don't go!! Seriously!
-> Therapy helps me rightsize the world when my imagination runs wild 🐯
7. Because my physical, spiritual & emotional health
-> click into place when my mental health is good 🧠
8. I'm a better person - wife, mom, daughter, coach, friend, all of it - because I invest in therapy. Simple!
So NO there's nothing wrong with me (anymore 🤪) ...but that's because I've made it a priority for years.
Do you go to therapy?
Why or why not?
p.s. you’ll notice this article is a complete copy & paste from Saturday’s linkedin post! i’d like to refer you to the first article where i am #doingless for the rest of 2023 :) thanks for your patience ❤️
HAPPY HOLIDAYS everyone. I hope you coast into the New Year.
I’m rooting for you.
